of 01Tragic Turn of Events in Babonneau: Details Emerge About Saint Lucia Targeted Shooting
Babonneau, Saint Lucia – In a chilling incident that has left the community in shock, 38-year-old Devon Maximin, also known as Couteau, of Talvern, Babonneau, was fatally shot in a targeted ambush on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.
According to eyewitness reports, Maximin was ambushed by two assailants while picking up his daughter and another family member from a nearby preschool. The attackers, who were lying in wait, fired multiple shots at Maximin, resulting in fatal injuries and severe damage to his vehicle in what is now being referred to as a Saint Lucia targeted shooting.
This Saint Lucia targeted shooting is the second homicide in Saint Lucia within a week. On Saturday, July 20, 2024, Maxwell Leo, also known as ‘Hennessy,’ was killed following a robbery attempt in Anse La Raye village. Police reports indicate that Leo and five colleagues attempted to flee a robbery scene when police opened fire on their vehicle after they failed to stop as commanded.
Ballistics testing revealed that a spent shell found in the vehicle and the fatal bullet suggest Leo may have been inadvertently shot by one of his own colleagues rather than by police. Leo was already known to law enforcement.
Law enforcement agencies are actively investigating both cases and are calling for any information that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible for Maximin’s murder. Residents of Babonneau and surrounding areas are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
The surge in violent crimes has sparked renewed calls for stronger law enforcement measures and greater community cooperation to combat the escalating violence. Community leaders and law enforcement stress the importance of public assistance in providing information that could help solve these crimes and bring justice to the victims and their families.
Maximin’s death has left the Babonneau community mourning the loss of a well-known local figure. The tragedy underscores the urgent need for effective crime prevention strategies and support systems to protect citizens and ensure a safer Saint Lucia.
As investigations continue, police assure the public that all efforts are being made to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. Authorities have increased patrols and security measures in high-risk areas to prevent further violence and reassure the community of their safety.
Anyone with information about these incidents, including the Saint Lucia targeted shooting, is encouraged to contact the police or Crime Stoppers anonymously. Public cooperation and vigilance are crucial in addressing and reducing crime on the island.
