Miramar Invitational delivers as Julien Alfred sets national record
MIRAMAR, Fla. — Julien Alfred sets national record in a commanding 300-meter victory at the 2025 Miramar Invitational, clocking 36.05 seconds and solidifying her reputation as one of the Caribbean’s most formidable sprint talents.
The 22-year-old Saint Lucian sprint star surged past a world-class field that included Olympic medalist Shericka Jackson of Jamaica, who finished second in 36.13 seconds. Jessika Gbai of Ivory Coast placed third at 36.24 seconds, rounding off a fiercely contested women’s final at the Ansin Sports Complex in Florida. According to Olympics.com, Alfred’s performance not only secured the win but also set a new Saint Lucian national record in the 300 meters.
Alfred’s winning time marked a new national record for St Lucia and a personal best. The result also underscored her progression from collegiate standout to international sprint force. This performance builds on her indoor momentum, when Julien Alfred smashed the 300m national record in Boston at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix earlier this year.
Technical performance and execution set Alfred apart
Track analysts praised Alfred’s execution on the bend and her seamless transition into the final stretch — critical components in her 300m dominance. Although the 300m is not an Olympic event, it’s frequently used by coaches to gauge an athlete’s speed endurance and form early in the season.
Her strong performance adds to the momentum following her Olympic success in Paris 2024, where she claimed gold in the 100m and silver in the 200m. Read full story
