CASTRIES, St Lucia — A man was shot and killed Monday night in La Pansee, Castries, in a killing that has intensified concern about violent crime in the capital.
Police officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department responded to a report of a shooting about 9:17 p.m. on March 16, 2026, according to the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force. Initial reports indicated that the male victim was shot multiple times about the body.
A medical practitioner pronounced him dead at the scene. Police said the victim had not yet been identified up to the time of the official release.
The latest killing is likely to deepen unease among residents in Castries, particularly as it follows another deadly stabbing in Desruisseaux, reinforcing concerns about a pattern of violent attacks across communities.
Police seek help identifying victim
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force said a post-mortem examination has been scheduled as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Authorities have not released a motive, identified any suspects, or announced any arrests. The fact that the victim remains unidentified may slow the early stages of the case as investigators try to establish who he was and trace his movements before the attack.
This uncertainty mirrors a separate body discovery investigation in Micoud, where authorities are also working to identify a deceased individual and determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
