Gun violence surges as man shot dead in Monchy, homicide toll climbs
CASTRIES, St Lucia (June 29, 2025) — St Lucia Police are investigating a deadly shooting in Monchy that claimed the life of a male individual, raising St Lucia’s national homicide toll to 33 for the year.
According to initial reports, the victim was approached by a gunman and shot multiple times. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, but the individual succumbed to his injuries despite efforts to save his life.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has yet to release the identity of the deceased, and no arrests have been made. Authorities have also not disclosed a potential motive for the attack, which has sparked renewed fears of escalating violence in northern communities.
This was one of two confirmed killings reported Friday night, further compounding national concern over the island’s rising homicide rate. In a separate incident, a man was shot dead in Thomazo, Dennery, just hours after the Monchy fatality. Authorities have confirmed both incidents are being treated as separate active investigations.
