of 01Open Letter Exposing Richard Frederick’s Failures
Unitedpac St. Lucia – Last Thursday, I tuned in to MBC, only to be confronted with a barrage of misinformation from your end Richard Frederick. It seems your tendency to distort facts has not waned since the 2021 elections. Your tirades, especially your relentless attacks on Allen Chastanet, have become predictable and tiresome. What was particularly galling this time was your audacious comparison of your achievements to those of Allen Chastanet. Let’s set the record straight.
Your so-called accomplishments Richard Frederick, primarily the construction of substandard housing projects, pale in comparison to the transformative initiatives undertaken by Allen Chastanet. Have you forgotten the significant strides made under his leadership? As Tourism Minister, even before contesting the Soufriere seat, Allen Chastanet was instrumental in replacing the old Soufriere bridge with a state-of-the-art structure, a testament to his vision for infrastructure development.
During his tenure as Prime Minister, Allen Chastanet turned Soufriere into a beacon of modernity and tourism. The Hummingbird Beach facility, featuring several restaurants and shops, has become a cornerstone of the local economy, attracting the majority of tourists visiting Soufriere. The modern market and bus terminal, designed with exquisite French architecture, have garnered admiration from locals and visitors alike.
Richard Frederick’s questionable governance and lackluster accomplishments pale in comparison to the transformative projects spearheaded by Allen Chastanet. Saint Lucians deserve leaders who prioritize progress over propaganda.
The Soufriere Square, another hallmark of Chastanet’s administration, has been praised by thousands for its beauty and utility. The stadium and grounds in Soufriere, a masterpiece in their own right, played a pivotal role in hosting the recent Independence celebrations, showcasing Chastanet’s commitment to creating spaces that serve the community.
Moreover, Allen Chastanet’s legacy includes the establishment of a state-of-the-art hospital in the south, which promises to be a cornerstone of St. Lucia’s healthcare system for years to come. The construction of a world-class airport terminal and tower, along with a top-tier horse racing track built to international standards, are further testaments to his forward-thinking approach. Plans for a cruise ship terminal in the south are set to transform that region, fostering economic growth and development.
One cannot overlook the completion of the Cabot Golf Course, now rated among the top 100 courses worldwide, a significant boost to St. Lucia’s tourism appeal. The transformation of the Orange Grove Plaza from a derelict structure to a vibrant, functional space housing government offices at an economical rate is another feather in Chastanet’s cap.
The establishment of a top-class court facility for the Eastern Caribbean Court of Justice, set to be occupied soon, further underscores his commitment to improving public infrastructure.
The upcoming 10-storey hotel at Point Seraphine, poised to elevate the complex to new heights, epitomizes the world-class investments Chastanet has attracted to St. Lucia. In stark contrast, Richard Frederick, your Ministry’s construction of substandard houses fails to meet the aspirations of the St. Lucian people.
Your propaganda is transparent, and the public sees through it. Your record, marred by the sale of state assets at giveaway prices and the exorbitant expenditure on a property in Castries, speaks volumes about your priorities.
It is time for introspection, Richard Frederick. Your contributions, or lack thereof, have done little to advance the interests of St. Lucia. The people deserve leaders who are genuinely committed to progress, not those who peddle falsehoods and mediocrity. The contrast between your tenure and that of Allen Chastanet is stark and undeniable. The sooner you acknowledge this, the better for our nation.
In the final analysis, your tenure has been marked by substandard achievements and questionable decisions. Allen Chastanet’s legacy, on the other hand, is one of progress and modernization, leaving an indelible mark on St. Lucia’s landscape. It is high time you reflect on your actions and understand why the people of St. Lucia deserve better.
