Through this unvarnished account, Sir Neville reflects on the highs and lows of his journey, shedding light on political developments often shrouded in controversy. Sir Emmanuel Neville Cenac Releases Revealing Political Memoir

A Storied Career in Public Service

Sir Neville Cenac concluded his public service in July 2021 after stepping down as Governor General of St Lucia. This marked the end of a career spanning more than five decades, beginning in 1968 when he joined the St Lucia Labour Party to challenge Sir John Compton’s United Workers Party.

Over the years, Sir Neville Cenac served the country in various capacities, including as a civil servant, Mayor of Castries, Member of Parliament, Leader of the Opposition, Minister for Foreign Affairs, President of the Senate, and finally as Governor General of St Lucia, a role he assumed in 2018.

In his memoir C’est l’heure, Sir Neville revisits some of the most defining moments of his political career, including his controversial decision to cross the floor in 1987. Reflecting on this pivotal event, he offers readers a detailed explanation of his motivations, as well as the impact it had on his career and public perception.

Reviving the Labour Party

One of the key narratives in C’est l’heure – Crossing the Divide is the revitalization of the St Lucia Labour Party during the 1960s. Sir Neville Cenac recounts his efforts alongside Labour Party Leader Kenneth Foster to rebuild a declining political organization and transform it into a force capable of challenging the political dominance of the UWP.

This section of the memoir offers readers “fascinating insights” into the inner workings of political strategy, leadership challenges, and the resilience required to navigate St Lucia’s political landscape during a transformative era.

A Call to Future Leaders

Sir Neville uses the memoir as an opportunity to challenge current and aspiring politicians to prioritize the interests of the people over personal ambitions. He emphasizes the importance of integrity, service, and accountability in leadership—a theme that he says has guided his own political journey.

His book aims to serve not only as a historical account but also as a guide for those seeking to shape St Lucia’s future. “Public service is about people, not power,” Sir Neville Cenac writes, encapsulating a message of selfless leadership.

A Dedication to His Roots

The memoir is dedicated to Sir Neville’s wife, Julita Cenac, their five children, and the people of Laborie, who stood by him during some of the most challenging moments of his political career, including his decision to cross the floor.

“C’est l’heure” captures not only the legacy of a political career but also the unwavering support of family and community that enabled Sir Neville to persevere through trials and triumphs alike.

Life After Politics

Now retired, Sir Neville is embracing a quieter life, spending quality time with his wife, grandchildren, and close friends. Reflecting on his long career in public service, he expresses gratitude for the opportunities he had to make a difference in the lives of others.
