Labour Party Meeting Turned Violent as SLP Supporters Brutally Attack Police

ANSE LA RAYE, Saint Lucia – A political gathering in Anse la Raye turned violent as SLP supporters brutally attack police officers who were present to maintain order. The shocking incident, which unfolded during a Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) meeting on Sunday, March 9, 2025, has sparked widespread outrage as footage of the assault circulates on social media.

Footage of the disturbing incident rapidly spread online, depicting several individuals wearing SLP-branded attire openly confronting and physically attacking uniformed officers who were at the scene to maintain public order. The graphic videos show Anse la Raye police officers being punched, shoved, and overwhelmed by aggressive supporters as chaos unfolded during the political event.

Details surrounding the altercation remain unclear, but early reports indicate that tensions escalated between police personnel and attendees at the event. Law enforcement officers were stationed at the meeting to ensure public safety, but their presence was met with hostility. The violent confrontation has intensified concerns about growing political tensions in Saint Lucia, with critics warning that such acts of aggression threaten national stability.

Social media reaction to Sunday’s incident has been overwhelmingly negative, with many users accusing the SLP government of fostering an atmosphere where violence and lawlessness flourish unchecked. Some critics argue that the ruling party has failed to set a tone of respect for law enforcement, while others have called for stronger police intervention to prevent future incidents. The backlash has placed additional pressure on government officials to address rising concerns over political unrest and public safety.

Authorities have not yet provided an official statement detailing what triggered the violent outburst or confirmed if arrests have been made or injuries sustained. However, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is expected to review the video footage circulating online to identify those responsible.

The incident has sparked heated debate, with some defending the actions of SLP supporters while others strongly condemn the attack on law enforcement. Calls for accountability have intensified, with opposition figures and civil society groups demanding a full investigation into what led to the violent confrontation.

This latest episode adds to the mounting scrutiny on the SLP government’s ability to maintain stability, especially as concerns over crime and governance continue to dominate national discourse. As tensions escalate, the public awaits further clarification from both law enforcement and government officials on how they plan to address the situation.
