WASHINGTON, Feb. 28, 2026 — President Donald Trump claimed Saturday that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Killed is now a reality, declaring in a Truth Social post that Iran’s top leader is dead and vowing that U.S. bombing will continue “throughout the week” or longer.
In the statement, Trump described Khamenei as “one of the most evil people in History,” calling the alleged killing “justice” for the people of Iran and for Americans and others worldwide, he said, who were harmed by Khamenei and “his gang.” Trump did not provide evidence, dates, locations, or operational details in the post.
Trump also asserted that other Iranian leaders were killed “along with him,” but he did not identify them or specify their roles.
What Trump claimed about the operation
Trump said Khamenei “was unable to avoid our Intelligence and Highly Sophisticated Tracking Systems,” and claimed the effort involved close coordination with Israel. He wrote that there was “not a thing” Khamenei or other leaders “killed along with him” could do to escape.
The post presented the alleged killing as the opening of a political moment inside Iran. Trump described it as “the single greatest chance for the Iranian people to take back their Country,” and suggested Iran’s security apparatus is facing internal strain.
Trump also claimed Iran had been severely damaged in “only one day,” using language that said the country had been “destroyed” and “obliterated.” The statement did not include an accounting of casualties, targets, or the extent of damage.
Trump links Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Killed claim to defections
Trump claimed the United States is hearing that members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, military, and other security and police forces “no longer want to fight” and are seeking immunity. He offered an ultimatum-style warning, repeating a line he said he delivered the night before, arguing that immunity is available now but not later.
He urged the IRGC and police to “peacefully merge” with what he described as “Iranian Patriots,” and said they should work together “as a unit” to rebuild the country. Trump did not define what immunity would mean, who would qualify, or what legal authority would apply.
Trump also said “heavy and pinpoint bombing” would continue “uninterrupted throughout the week or, as long as necessary,” linking the campaign to his stated goal of “peace throughout the Middle East and, indeed, the world.”
What is confirmed and what is not
Trump’s post represents a presidential claim made on social media. The statement itself does not provide documentation or independent verification that Khamenei has been killed, that additional leaders have been killed, or that Iranian forces are seeking immunity.
The post nonetheless signals Trump’s publicly declared intent to maintain military pressure while encouraging defections inside Iran’s security structure. Any confirmed change in Iran’s top leadership would carry major implications for governance and stability, but Trump’s statement alone does not establish those facts.
