Police investigate deadly Derek Walcott Square shooting that left one man dead and another injured, as suspects remain unidentified.

Victim identified in Derek Walcott Square shooting as police probe continues.

Castries, St. Lucia — A deadly shooting near Derek Walcott Square on Monday afternoon left one man dead and another injured, according to police.

The Derek Walcott Square shooting occurred around 2:20 p.m. when multiple gunmen reportedly approached two young men and opened fire. Witnesses described scenes of chaos as bystanders scrambled for safety in the heart of Castries.

Officers responding to the incident found the victims lying on the grass of Derek Walcott Square with gunshot wounds. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was rushed to a hospital for treatment. Police have not released the names of the victims, pending notification of their families.

Details about how the suspects fled the scene remain unclear, and no arrests had been made as of Monday evening. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and gathering witness statements as part of their investigation.

Video footage showing the aftermath of the Derek Walcott Square shooting has been widely shared on social media, prompting police to discourage the public from circulating graphic images out of respect for the victims and their families.

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.

“We urge anyone with information about the Derek Walcott Square shooting to come forward,” a spokesperson for the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force said.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has asked members of the public who witnessed the incident or have relevant information to contact the nearest police station or report anonymously via the Crime Hotline.
