Calls for tolerance grow as Dennery North UWP condemns vandalism of party flags in the constituency.
DENNERY, St Lucia, — The Dennery North branch of the United Workers Party (UWP) has issued a strong statement condemning what it describes as deliberate acts of vandalism against its political paraphernalia. The branch claims party flags erected in the constituency were removed and destroyed on the evening of August 14, sparking calls for greater political tolerance ahead of the next election cycle.
STATEMENT FROM THE DENNERY NORTH UNITED WORKERS PARTY BRANCH
The Dennery North United Workers Party (UWP) Branch strongly condemns the recent acts of vandalism targeting our political paraphernalia, in particular, the removal and destruction of our party flags erected on utility poles within the constituency on the evening of August 14, 2025.
These deliberate actions, reportedly carried out by supporters of the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP), are not only disrespectful to our movement but also to the democratic process, which allows all political organizations the right to freely display their symbols and campaign materials.
Such behaviour fosters unnecessary division, undermines the spirit of healthy political competition, and distracts from the real issues facing our community. We remind all supporters, regardless of political affiliation, that the democratic process thrives on respect, tolerance, and fair play. The removal or destruction of any party’s paraphernalia is an attack on free expression and the principles upon which our democracy stands.
The Dennery North UWP Branch calls on all political parties, their leadership, and supporters to denounce these acts and to commit to a campaign season grounded in mutual respect and constructive engagement. We will continue to advocate for the people of Dennery North with integrity and will not be deterred by acts of intimidation or sabotage.
We urge our supporters to remain calm, law-abiding, and focused on the mission ahead to Right the Wrong and deliver a better future for our constituency.
The press release underscores growing tensions in Dennery North as political parties ramp up campaign activities. With both major parties vying for influence, acts of vandalism, whether proven or alleged, risk inflaming divisions in an already charged political climate. The UWP Dennery North branch says it will maintain its focus on advocacy and calls for all sides to commit to a fair and respectful campaign season.
