Dennery Shooting Highlights Perennial Problem of Illegal Guns on Island

Dennery, Saint Lucia – In a harrowing incident that has left the Dennery community in shock, one man is dead, and another has been rushed to the hospital following a brutal shooting on Saturday evening.

The Saint Lucia Police Force confirmed that the shooting took place at approximately 6:30 pm at La Ressource, Dennery. While the exact details of the incident remain unclear, the impact on the local community is undeniably profound.

Emergency services were quick to respond to the scene, providing immediate medical attention to the injured man before transporting him to the hospital. Unfortunately, the other victim succumbed to his injuries on site.

This latest act of violence comes on the heels of two other homicides within 24 hours in the community of Babonneau, further highlighting the alarming surge in gun violence across Saint Lucia. With these recent incidents, the island has now recorded 49 homicides in 2024, underscoring the urgent need for heightened security measures and community intervention.

Residents of La Ressource and the wider Dennery area have expressed their fears and frustrations, calling for immediate action to address the escalating violence. “We are living in constant fear,” one local resident shared. “Every day we hear about another shooting or another act of violence. It has to stop.”

The police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this latest shooting. They have urged anyone with information to come forward to aid in their inquiries. “We are working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice,” a police spokesperson stated. “Community cooperation is crucial in our efforts to curb this wave of violence.”

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are hopeful that the perpetrators will be swiftly apprehended. In the meantime, the community is left to grapple with the aftermath of yet another tragic loss.

This incident, coupled with the recent Babonneau homicides, highlights the urgent need for a collaborative approach to tackling gun violence in Saint Lucia. Community leaders, law enforcement, and government officials must work together to develop and implement effective strategies to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.

Unitedpac St. Lucia will continue to monitor this developing story, providing updates as more information becomes available. The growing homicide rate is a stark reminder of the challenges facing the island nation and the need for a united front in combating this critical issue.
