Authorities Investigate Grisly Monier Stabbing as Saint Lucia’s Homicide Count Rises

Gros Islet, Saint Lucia – Tragedy struck the community of Monier, Gros Islet, on Thursday evening, September 26, 2024, when 24-year-old Guatemalan national Sofia Munoz was fatally stabbed in a brutal attack. Emergency responders found Munoz in a bathroom tub, displaying multiple puncture wounds to her back. A 24-year-old male, also injured in the assault, sustained deep lacerations and was transported to a medical facility. Police are investigating the incident, with the male currently in custody.

This marks the island’s 62nd homicide of the year. Munoz, who interned at the St. Lucia Animal Protection Society (SLAPS) and lived in Cap Estate, was discovered in the aftermath of the assault that occurred at around 9:30 PM. The community of Monier has been left reeling from this violent episode as authorities continue their investigation.
