St Lucia records third weekend homicide as man fatally shot near Soufriere school
CASTRIES, St Lucia (June 30, 2025) — A man was fatally shot near the Soufriere school on Sunday evening, marking St Lucia’s 34th homicide for the year and the third deadly incident reported over the weekend.
Residents in the community reported hearing multiple gunshots shortly before sunset. When the area was checked, the lifeless body of a male individual was discovered near the school premises. He was found lying in a pool of blood with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim, known in the community by the alias Flatbush, has not been formally identified by Saint Lucia police. A graphic video of the aftermath quickly circulated on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, showing the man’s body motionless on the ground. The incident has heightened concern among residents over the ongoing escalation of gun violence.
Authorities have not released official details about the victim’s age or residence. No suspects have been named, and the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has not provided information on a possible motive. The incident remains under active investigation.
This latest killing follows two other homicides reported earlier in the weekend. On Friday night, a man was shot dead in Thomazo, Dennery, and hours later, another man was gunned down in Monchy. Both cases remain unsolved.
The Soufriere shooting has alarmed community members, particularly due to its close proximity to an educational institution. Although no students were present at the time, residents say the location of the incident raises broader concerns about public safety.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is urging anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the nearest police station or Crime Hotline. Officers are continuing to process the scene and interview potential witnesses.
The government has not yet issued a statement on the recent surge in homicides. As of Monday morning, there has been no formal response or policy announcement addressing the violent weekend.
