Public urged to assist police after Micoud shooting
Micoud, St Lucia — Saint Lucia’s homicide count for 2026 has risen to four following the Micoud shooting that left a man dead in the community on Saturday, Jan. 17, police have confirmed.
The deceased has been identified as Jamari Joseph, a resident of Micoud. Preliminary reports indicate that Joseph sustained a gunshot wound to the head and died as a result of his injuries.
Police said the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear. No details have been released regarding the events leading up to the incident, and no motive has been established.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that officers responded to the scene and that investigations are ongoing. Police remained in the area as inquiries continued.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has not disclosed whether any suspects have been identified or whether any arrests have been made. No information has been provided regarding the weapon used in the shooting.
Joseph is the brother of a well-known Saint Lucian calypsonian, police confirmed.

The Micoud shooting brings the number of homicides recorded in Saint Lucia for 2026 to four, according to official police figures. The total includes other unrelated incidents, such as the recent fatal stabbing of a Soufriere resident in Castries, which police have also confirmed is under investigation.
