Gang crackdown leads to illegal firearm seizure during RSLPF Castries Operation in crime-plagued neighborhoods
CASTRIES, St Lucia — In a show of force against escalating gun violence, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) executed a high-impact multi-unit operation on July 10, 2025, targeting crime-ridden zones across the city of Castries. The crackdown comes just days after the Police Commissioner signaled a shift toward decisive law enforcement action to curb gang-related crime.
The coordinated effort mobilized several specialized units, including the Gangs, Narcotics, and Firearms Unit (North), the Special Operations Team, the Mobile Station, and the Department of Road Safety. Officers descended on known hotspots such as Wilton’s Yard, Marchand, Odlum City, and New Village, conducting foot patrols, stop and search procedures, and vehicle checkpoints throughout the day.
The results were substantial:
- 46 individuals searched
- 52 vehicles stopped
- 15 vehicles searched
- 6 traffic tickets issued
A major breakthrough came around 6:00 p.m. near the Rose Hill and Morne Du Don junction, when officers intercepted a suspicious individual heading toward Wilton’s Yard. The suspect attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended. A search revealed two illegal firearms: a Glock .45 pistol with 14 rounds and a black AA 19 pistol with 17 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The seized weapons and ammunition were processed according to forensic protocol. Police confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody and advised of their rights, with formal charges expected within 24 hours.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) described the operation as a critical move to disrupt gang activity and remove deadly weapons from the streets of Castries. In light of recent gun-related incidents, including multiple homicides and shootings across the capital, the police force says it will continue to maintain a strong and visible presence in volatile areas.
