Bacaderre, Vieux-Fort – Tragedy struck in Bacadere, Vieux-Fort today as a man was hacked to death in a brutal mid-day attack. The victim, identified as Kervin Louis, in his mid-30s, was fatally chopped by a masked assailant in front of a local laundry. This incident comes just days after the 62nd homicide, where a woman was stabbed to death in Monier, Gros-Islet, further intensifying concerns over the rising crime rate in Saint Lucia. The total homicide count now stands at 63 for the year.
Eyewitnesses say the attacker, armed with a machete, struck Louis with a single blow to the neck before fleeing the scene. Louis collapsed immediately and showed no signs of movement following the attack.

Family members arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, with Louis’s mother, Magdaline Louis Spooner, devastated by the loss. Overcome with grief, she cried out for her son, “Kervin, Kervin, Kervin…” as she made her way to the hearse. “God will deal with the person who killed him,” she said, expressing her anguish over the manner of her son’s death. She was consoled by relatives as they gathered to support her.
The incident has shaken the Bacadere community, where the last reported homicide occurred in April. Louis’s uncle reflected on the tragedy, stating, “It’s a difficult time for any family when they lose a loved one.”
Local authorities are investigating the fatal chopping in Bacadere but have not yet identified any suspects. More information is expected as the investigation progresses.
