Forecasters warn of Saharan dust and thunderstorms as a tropical wave unsettles St Lucia weather.
CASTRIES, St Lucia — St Lucia weather will bring partly cloudy and hazy skies today, with scattered showers and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms as a tropical wave approaches the island chain, according to the Saint Lucia Meteorological Services.
St Lucia weather outlook for the next 24 hours
Forecaster Webster Gajadhar reported that winds will blow from the east-northeast to east near 20 mph, or 31 km/h, creating breezy conditions across the island. The present temperature at Hewanorra Airport in Vieux Fort is 27°C (81°F), with relative humidity at 81 percent.
Last night’s minimum temperature also dipped to 27°C (81°F). Rainfall recorded over the past 24 hours measured 2.3 mm at Hewanorra Airport, bringing the total for August to 55.9 mm. Today’s conditions follow the St Lucia weather report of August 18, 2025, which noted hazy skies and scattered showers across the island. Sunset today is expected at 6:22 p.m., with sunrise tomorrow at 5:51 a.m.
Marine conditions remain moderate, with waves between 4 to 6 feet (1.2 to 1.8 meters). Tides in Castries Harbour will be low at 8:47 a.m. and high at 3:17 p.m., while Vieux Fort Bay will see low tide at 10:14 a.m. and high tide at 4:24 p.m. Authorities noted in the St Lucia marine forecast that small craft operators should proceed with caution.
Lesser Antilles forecast signals unstable conditions
The Lesser Antilles forecast calls for partly cloudy and hazy conditions today, becoming cloudy at intervals with widely scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Meteorologists warned that a plume of Saharan dust haze will reduce visibility and negatively affect air quality across the island chain.
Moist and unstable conditions ahead of the approaching tropical wave St Lucia is monitoring are expected to fuel occasional cloudiness, showers and thunderstorms across the region during the forecast period.
Tropical weather developments could bring more rain
A tropical wave moving westward across the western tropical Atlantic at 17 mph (28 km/h) could strengthen into a tropical depression this weekend as it nears or passes north of the northern Leeward Islands. The Saint Lucia Meteorological Services cautioned that this system is expected to start affecting the region from late tonight.
Another tropical wave over the eastern tropical Atlantic, traveling west at 12 mph (19 km/h), is also being monitored for possible development in the coming days.
Advisory for residents and fisherfolk
Residents are advised to limit outdoor exposure as haze could worsen respiratory conditions, particularly among the elderly and children. Motorists are urged to exercise caution as reduced visibility may affect driving conditions.
Meanwhile, fisherfolk are being cautioned that moderate seas, combined with possible St Lucia thunderstorms, could create challenges for small craft navigating coastal waters.
