Police Launch Intensive Balata Homicide Investigation Following Fatal Shooting
Balata, Castries – On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, the community of Balata was shaken by a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the death of a young man. At approximately 12:45 p.m., officers from the Babonneau Police Station responded to reports of a fatal shooting at Balata, Castries.
Upon arrival, the responding officers found an unresponsive male lying in a prone position with an apparent gunshot wound. Personnel from the Saint Lucia Fire Service also attended the scene, providing immediate aid to the victim. Despite their efforts, the victim was transported to the Owen King European Union Hospital (OKEU), where a medical practitioner declared him deceased.
The deceased has been formally identified as Darius Anthony Augustine, also known as Lucky, a 23-year-old resident of Grand Riviere, Gros-Islet. This tragic event has left the community in mourning as they come to terms with the loss of a young life.
