Two Shot in Bagatelle

Castries, St. Lucia – In a tragic turn of events, Saint Lucia has recorded its 20th homicide of the year. On Thursday evening, a shooting incident unfolded in the quiet community of Bagatelle, leaving two individuals wounded.

The Incident

While the full details of the incident are still emerging, authorities have confirmed that two victims were shot during the altercation. The severity of their injuries varied significantly:

  1. Fatally Injured Victim: One of the victims tragically succumbed to their wounds at the scene. Emergency responders worked tirelessly to stabilize the victim, but their efforts were in vain. The loss of life has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving family members and friends grieving. The deceased has been identified as Calixtus Jn Louis, also known by the chilling moniker “Murderer.” Louis, a 42-year-old resident of Bagatelle, Castries, became the unfortunate 20th homicide victim on the island.

  2. Hospitalized Victim: The second victim was swiftly transported to the hospital for urgent medical treatment. Their condition remains critical, and medical professionals are working diligently to provide the necessary care. The hospital staff is closely monitoring their progress.

The Ongoing Crisis

Saint Lucia has been grappling with an alarming surge in violent crime since the beginning of the year. The 20 homicides within a span of less than two months underscore the severity of the situation. Gun-related incidents have been particularly prevalent, raising concerns among residents and authorities alike.

Law Enforcement Response

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has been actively engaged in various operations and crime-fighting measures to address the escalating violence. While there have been some successes, the issue persists, highlighting the challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing criminal activity.

In a press statement, Commissioner of Police expressed deep concern over the rising homicide rate. He emphasized the need for community collaboration and urged citizens to play an active role in ensuring public safety. The RSLPF has called upon residents to:

  • Report Suspicious Activity: If you witness anything unusual or suspect criminal behavior, report it promptly to the police. Your vigilance can make a difference.

  • Cooperate with Investigations: The success of ongoing investigations depends on the cooperation of witnesses and community members. Providing crucial information can lead to arrests and prevent further violence.

  • Stay Informed: The RSLPF will continue to share updates and safety advisories. Stay informed through official channels and follow safety guidelines.

Community Solidarity

In response to the escalating violence, the RSLPF has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding citizens and communities. They recognize that community solidarity is essential in the fight against crime. Residents are encouraged to support law enforcement efforts by remaining vigilant, fostering trust, and actively participating in crime prevention initiatives.

As Saint Lucia mourns the loss of another life from Bagatelle, the call for collective action grows louder. The safety and well-being of every citizen depend on our joint efforts to create a safer, more secure island.

Our thoughts are with the victims’ families during this difficult time.
