Weapons, ammunition and narcotics seized as Vieux-Fort police raid leads to arrests
VIEUX-FORT, St Lucia — Two people are in custody after a pre-dawn Vieux-Fort police raid in Vigier, where officers seized an assault rifle, a pistol, dozens of rounds of ammunition and cannabis resin.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force said the coordinated operation began around 4:30 a.m. on Monday. Multiple specialized units took part, including the Criminal Investigations Department, the Gangs Narcotics and Firearms Unit, the Special Services Branch from the South and Dennery, and the Tactical Response Unit. Officers executed a search warrant at a residence and searched the surrounding area.
Firearms and narcotics seized in operation
Investigators reported finding a Taurus pistol loaded with 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition and one additional round chambered. An AR-15-style rifle with a magazine containing 29 rounds of 5.56 ammunition was also recovered.
Police further discovered 30 extra rounds of 5.56 ammunition stored in a black nylon bag. In addition to the weapons, 82 grams of cannabis resin with an estimated street value of $820 were seized.
Authorities confirmed that two individuals were arrested in connection with the discovery. Their identities have not been released, and police said investigations are continuing.
Police urge public cooperation
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force called on the public to assist with efforts to remove weapons and narcotics from communities. Officers noted that tips can be submitted anonymously through the Crime Hotline at 555 or via the RSLPF Crime Hotline App.
In a statement, the force emphasized its commitment to tackling violent crime. “The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force remains committed to removing illegal firearms, ammunition, and narcotics from our communities and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens,” the release said.
Crackdown tied to wider violence in Vieux-Fort
The Vieux-Fort police raid comes amid heightened security operations in southern St Lucia, an area that has seen a surge in violent crime. Earlier this month, investigators linked a triple homicide in Vieux-Fort to escalating gang tensions, while police also discovered a burnt vehicle in Canelles containing human remains.
The latest arrests build on other targeted crackdowns. Just days ago, officers confirmed another operation in Barnard Hill that yielded eight firearms, signaling a nationwide push to curb the flow of illegal weapons fueling violent confrontations.
