Police seek information after Wayne Mathurin fatally shot in Bocage
CASTRIES, St Lucia (May 26, 2025) — The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has opened a homicide investigation after 35-year-old Wayne Mathurin was fatally shot in Bocage, Castries, marking another deadly act of gun violence in the capital.
The incident unfolded around 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, 2025. Officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department responded to reports of gunshots in the Bocage area. Upon arrival, they discovered Mathurin suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders from the Saint Lucia Fire Service transported the victim to the Owen King European Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by a medical practitioner.
While the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, police have not indicated whether any suspects have been identified or detained in connection with the fatal incident. Investigators are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the shooting or possess relevant information to come forward.

Mathurin’s death marks Saint Lucia’s 29th homicide of 2025, underscoring a troubling trend of violent crime that has plagued several communities across the island. The Bocage shooting follows a triple homicide in Barre Denis earlier this month that left three dead and another critically injured. On May 8, Jeremiah Precius was fatally stabbed in Ti Morne, Union. Just two days later, Rakim Romlelle Joseph was shot dead in White Rock, Gros Islet, in another act of gun violence that shocked the nation.
These incidents underscore growing concern about the safety of citizens and the capacity of law enforcement to stem the tide of violence. The RSLPF continues to stress the importance of community cooperation in resolving criminal cases and improving public safety.
Authorities are assuring residents that all necessary resources are being deployed to bring perpetrators to justice. As the investigation remains active, law enforcement is expected to maintain a visible presence in Bocage and surrounding areas.
