CASTRIES, St Lucia — A joint GNF operation in Micoud and Vieux Fort on Friday resulted in the recovery of a rifle and ammunition, with four individuals charged in connection with the seizures.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force said the operation was conducted on February 27, 2026, by the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit, including both its Northern and Southern detachments. Officers were supported by the Southern Tactical Response Team and the K9 Unit.
Rifle Seized During GNF Operation in Vieux Fort
Police reported that a search of a residence in Morne Cayenne, Vieux Fort, led to the discovery of one rifle.
Following the search, 55-year-old Linus Fontenelle, 24-year-old Kwame Fontenelle, and 52-year-old Berthelia Winter were arrested. Each was subsequently charged with possession of a firearm.
The three appeared before a magistrate and were granted bail in the sum of XCD 35,000 each, cash or suitable surety. Police did not disclose additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the recovery.
Ammunition Recovered in Dugard, Micoud
In a separate operation at Dugard, Micoud, officers recovered one round of 5.56 ammunition, according to police.
Twenty-five-year-old Kervan Laurence was arrested and later charged with possession of ammunition in connection with that seizure.
During a bail hearing, Laurence was granted bail in the amount of XCD 3,500, cash or suitable surety. As part of his bail conditions, he is required to report to the Vieux Fort Police Station every Thursday between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. and to surrender all travel documents.
Police did not indicate whether the two incidents were linked or part of a broader investigation.
The latest GNF operation comes amid continued enforcement efforts targeting illegal firearms and ammunition across southern communities. The operation follows recent national security measures, including the government’s gun amnesty initiative under the 2026 security plan, aimed at reducing the number of illegal weapons in circulation.
Residents in affected areas have repeatedly called for sustained policing presence, as authorities emphasize that unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition carries significant legal consequences under St Lucia’s criminal laws.
