Police probe weekend violence with Grande Ravine Dennery shootings linked
CASTRIES, St Lucia — Two men were shot and killed in Grande Ravine, Dennery, on Saturday in separate incidents that police believe are connected. The Grande Ravine Dennery shootings have added to St Lucia’s rising homicide toll for 2025.
Law enforcement officials reported that the first shooting occurred around 11 a.m., when gunmen opened fire on a sport utility vehicle in Grande Ravine. Hours later, another man was fatally shot in a second incident in the same community. Officers remained at the scene of the second crime late Saturday as investigations continued.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force confirmed that one of the victims was 26-year-old Sherwin Malcom Augustine of Dennery Village. He died from gunshot wounds to the chest. The identity of the second victim has not yet been released.
Authorities indicated that the two shootings are being treated as connected but have not provided further details.
The latest killings bring the national homicide tally to 64 for 2025, with seven people slain in just over 48 hours. The surge in violence follows a string of recent incidents, including a police operation in Barnard Hill that recovered eight firearms and a shooting in Bexon where two men were targeted, leaving one dead and another critically injured.
Only days earlier, St Lucia was shaken by a triple homicide in Vigier Vieux Fort and the discovery of a burnt vehicle in Canelles that police continue to investigate for possible links to criminal activity.
Officials have not announced any arrests or disclosed possible motives, and appeals for public assistance in solving the crimes are expected in the coming days.
