Police charge Vieux Fort man in connection with La Tourney double homicide

CASTRIES, St Lucia — A Vieux Fort man has been charged in connection with the La Tourney double homicide that claimed the lives of two young men earlier this month.

St Lucia Police identified the suspect as Anthony Mathurin, also known as “Zavick” or “Dado Boy,” of La Tourney. He was arrested following what investigators described as intensive inquiries and has since been charged with two counts of murder.

The fatal shooting occurred around 5:45 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, when officers responded to reports of gunfire in La Tourney. They discovered the bodies of Rebelto Nelson, 24, of La Tourney, and Travis Charles, 22, of Desruisseaux, Micoud. Both victims had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. Unitedpac St Lucia News previously reported on the double homicide in La Tourney, which sent shockwaves throughout the community.

The incident is part of a troubling wave of violent crime that has gripped the island in recent weeks. Earlier this month, police were called to a triple homicide in Vieux Fort, while investigators also linked a burnt vehicle discovered in Canelles to the spike in homicides. More recently, two people were killed during the Grande Ravine Dennery shootings, underscoring the escalation of gun violence.

Police confirmed that Mathurin was taken into custody on Sunday, Sept. 14. He was formally charged on Wednesday, Sept. 17, and appeared before the Second District Court at the Bordelais Correctional Facility the following day. During the bail hearing, the court ordered that he remain in custody until Oct. 16, when the matter is scheduled for case management.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Wayne Charley, who oversees crime management and citizen security, confirmed the update. He thanked the public for its cooperation in the investigation and encouraged anyone with additional information to contact authorities.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has emphasized the importance of continued public support as investigations into violent crime remain a national priority. For a broader context, readers can also review recent updates on the Bexon shooting investigation, which added to this year’s rising homicide tally.
