CASTRIES, St Lucia — A deadly Marchand double shooting on Saturday night left two people dead, including an elderly woman, pushing St Lucia’s homicide toll to 31 for the year and heightening concern over rising gun violence in the community.
Initial reports indicated that an elderly resident of Marchand Boulevard was fatally shot during the incident. A second victim, a male who was at the scene when gunfire erupted, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Despite emergency medical efforts, the injured man later died from his injuries. Reports indicate he suffered several gunshot wounds to the upper torso.
The identities of the victims had not been officially released up to publication time.
