Barre Denis Homicide: Community Shocked Amid Carnival Celebrations

Saint Lucia has been rocked by yet another tragic incident, this time in the community of Barre Denis. On Sunday, July 15, 2024, at about 9:30 p.m., the Criminal Investigations Department in Castries received a report of a shooting in Barre Denis, which claimed the life of one male. The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Kerdal Amedee, a local of Barre Denis.

Officers proceeded to the scene where they observed an unresponsive male lying motionless, bearing signs of apparent gunshot injuries. Personnel from the Saint Lucia Fire Service rendered aid and conveyed the victim to the Owen King European Union Hospital (OKEU). Unfortunately, Kerdal Amedee later succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased by a medical practitioner.

Barre Denis has seen its fair share of gun violence; the last homicide was that of Yannick Charles. This recent incident, occurring amidst the ongoing carnival celebrations, has sent shockwaves through the neighborhood.

Residents of Barre Denis have expressed their concerns over the rising tide of violence that seems to be gripping their community. Many have called for increased police presence and stronger measures to ensure the safety of the neighborhood.

This latest incident comes on the heels of several other recent homicides that have cast a shadow over the island. The last few months have seen violent acts in Dennery, Rodney Bay, and Marchand, stark reminders of the out-of-control violence in Saint Lucia. Additionally, the recent homicide in Anse La Raye further underscores the escalating violence on the island.

Police investigations are currently underway, and the authorities have urged anyone with information about this incident to come forward. The motive behind the shooting is still unclear, and the police are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the tragic incident.

The community of Barre Denis is now left to grapple with the aftermath of this senseless act of violence. Local leaders and community members are expected to meet in the coming days to discuss strategies to prevent further incidents and to provide support to those affected by this tragedy.

As the investigation continues, UnitedPac St. Lucia will provide updates on this developing story. Stay tuned to our website and social media platforms for the latest information.

Further details will be reported as they become available.

In the meantime, the residents of Saint Lucia are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The safety and security of our communities depend on the collective efforts of all citizens.
