BRIDGETOWN, Barbados — British Airways flights to Barbados will expand with a daily direct service from London Gatwick starting Oct. 25, helping increase the airline’s available seats to the island by 70% during the 2026-27 winter season, according to Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc.
The Gatwick service to Grantley Adams International Airport will complement the airline’s existing London Heathrow flights. Together, the routes will provide as many as three daily British Airways flights from London during the winter peak.
Tourism officials described the expansion as the airline’s largest increase in air service to Barbados. The schedule could provide more than 120,000 additional seats annually, while summer 2027 capacity is expected to increase by more than 100%. Those figures represent available seats rather than confirmed passenger bookings.
British Airways flights to Barbados reach three daily at winter peak
The Heathrow service will operate daily through November before increasing to twice daily from December through March 2027. Gatwick will operate daily, bringing the combined winter peak schedule to two Heathrow flights and one Gatwick flight each day.
The Gatwick route will continue into summer 2027, giving British Airways its first twice-daily summer service to Barbados, according to the Sept. 28 announcement published by Barbados’ Government Information Service.
British Airways initially announced the Gatwick route in March as a daily winter service. The September tourism announcement extends the planned operation beyond that seasonal schedule.
The airline’s wider winter expansion also includes a daily standalone Gatwick service to St Lucia beginning Oct. 25.
On six days each week, the Gatwick operation to Barbados will include onward service to Guyana, Tobago or Grenada. Wednesdays will be dedicated to Barbados, without an onward destination on that service.
Tourism officials welcome capacity as airlines review routes
Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. chief executive Andrea Franklin said the expansion reflected demand for travel to Barbados and the region.
“Ensuring Barbados remains accessible to our valued UK visitors is a top priority,” Franklin said in the official announcement. She also pointed to opportunities for travelers connecting through London from Europe, Africa, the Middle East and other markets.
Franklin described the additional capacity as timely as airlines rationalize their routes, according to the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation.
The Gatwick relaunch gives UK travelers another London departure option alongside Heathrow. Its continuation into summer will also increase access outside the traditional winter high season.
Tourism officials said the expanded summer schedule would support travel for events including Crop Over, Dive Fest and Rally Barbados. The daily Gatwick service is scheduled to begin with the international aviation winter season on Oct. 25 and continue into summer 2027.
