A brazen 1st National Bank robbery in Saint Lucia saw armed criminals hold employees hostage at the Choc branch before making their escape.

Castries, Saint Lucia – In a harrowing incident reminiscent of a high-stakes thriller, employees of 1st National Bank were violently accosted by gun-wielding bandits on Wednesday, leading to a dramatic hostage situation at the bank’s Choc branch. The ordeal unfolded around 5 p.m. as the unsuspecting employees were on their way home, only to be forced back into the bank by the brazen criminals.

According to reports, the employees were traveling along Calvary Road when they noticed what appeared to be a broken-down vehicle. Unbeknownst to them, this was a carefully orchestrated trap. As they stopped to offer assistance, they were ambushed by armed assailants who forced them at gunpoint back to the bank.

Once inside the Choc branch, the situation quickly escalated. Held at gunpoint, the terrified employees were powerless as the robbers demanded access to the bank’s cash reserves. The criminals swiftly made off with an undisclosed sum, leaving the employees fearing for their lives throughout the terrifying ordeal.

The police were notified of the situation around 8 p.m., leading to a rapid response by both on-duty and off-duty officers. Donning riot gear, law enforcement officers descended upon the scene, which by then had drawn a considerable crowd. Onlookers in the nearby Caribbean Cinemas parking lot and surrounding areas watched in disbelief as the events unfolded, likening it to something straight out of a Hollywood movie.

Despite the swift police response, the bandits managed to evade capture, escaping before officers could breach the bank. Fortunately, all employees were rescued unharmed, though visibly shaken by the ordeal. The incident has raised serious concerns about security protocols and the safety of bank employees, particularly during transit to and from the workplace.

Bank officials arrived on the scene once the all-clear was given, and investigators immediately began piecing together the sequence of events. The daring nature of the heist, coupled with the significant security breach it represents, has left many questioning how such a brazen crime could occur in broad daylight and what steps will be taken to prevent a recurrence.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as the search for the perpetrators intensifies. Meanwhile, the affected employees are being offered counseling and support as they recover from the traumatic experience.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the increasing boldness of criminal elements in Saint Lucia and the need for heightened vigilance, especially among businesses and their employees.

In the aftermath of this shocking crime, 1st National Bank has vowed to review and reinforce its security measures, ensuring that such an incident is never repeated. As investigations continue, the Saint Lucian public remains on edge, awaiting justice for the victims of this terrifying ordeal.

Stay tuned with Unitedpac St. Lucia News for more updates as the story develops.
