Police probe Wiltons Yard fatal shooting that killed “Posess” and injured 1 man amid rising gun violence.
CASTRIES, St Lucia — A man known locally as “Posess” was fatally shot in Wiltons Yard early Tuesday morning, marking St Lucia’s 48th homicide of 2025 in what police describe as another deadly incident in a week of escalating gun violence.
According to initial reports, several gunmen entered the Castries community in the early hours and opened fire. “Posess” was pronounced dead at the scene, while another man, identified as Mandel, sustained injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.
Investigators have not yet determined the motive behind the attack and are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in identifying the perpetrators.
The Wiltons Yard fatal shooting comes amid a spate of violent incidents across the island in recent days. On Sunday, a drive-by shooting in New Village left two people injured. Within hours, another man was wounded in a separate attack at Morne Du Don.
Gunfire also erupted in Marchand on Monday afternoon in a daylight gun attack that startled residents and damaged a white Suzuki Swift. Bullets struck the vehicle’s windscreen and side panel, but no injuries were reported.
Authorities have expressed concern over the rapid succession of shootings, noting that investigations into all the cases are ongoing. The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is urging residents to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity, stressing that community cooperation is critical in curbing the violence.
These latest incidents highlight persistent challenges in tackling gun-related crime and underscore the urgency of law enforcement’s efforts to stem the bloodshed.
