CASTRIES, St Lucia — Evaristus Jn Marie dies at age 67 following an undisclosed illness, ending a career that placed the respected business executive and public servant in leadership roles across several major Saint Lucia institutions.

At the time of his death Friday, Jn Marie was chairman of the National Insurance Corporation and Bank of Saint Lucia. He was also a board member of East Caribbean Financial Holding Company Ltd., managing director of Jn Marie & Sons Ltd. and a director of the Saint Lucia Electricity Services Limited, commonly known as LUCELEC.

His passing creates senior board and leadership vacancies across institutions with important responsibilities in banking, social security, energy and private enterprise.

Career Across Business and Public Service

Jn Marie built a career spanning decades in both private enterprise and public institutions.

His chairmanship of the National Insurance Corporation placed him in a senior oversight position at the organization responsible for administering Saint Lucia’s social security system. The NIC’s official corporate information page lists Jn Marie as its chairperson representing the government.

The corporation collects contributions from workers and employers and administers short-term and long-term benefits to eligible contributors and their families.

Jn Marie also chaired Bank of Saint Lucia, one of the country’s leading financial institutions, while serving on the board of its parent company, East Caribbean Financial Holding Company Ltd.

Those roles placed him within the leadership structure of institutions that influence banking, investment, credit and financial services across Saint Lucia.

His responsibilities extended into the energy sector through his position as a LUCELEC director. The utility plays a central role in Saint Lucia’s economy, with changes such as the recent LUCELEC fuel surcharge increase directly affecting household and business electricity costs.

Jn Marie also remained active in private enterprise as managing director of Jn Marie & Sons Ltd., maintaining a direct connection to the local business community.

The range of positions he held reflected his influence across several sectors central to Saint Lucia’s economy and public administration.

After Decades of Service, Evaristus Jn Marie Dies

Jn Marie was widely recognized for his work as president of the Saint Lucia Petroleum Dealers Association.

In that role, he became a familiar public voice on issues affecting petroleum retailers, including fuel pricing, operating expenses and the broader pressures facing service station operators.

He regularly represented dealers during national discussions involving government policy, regulated fuel prices and the sustainability of the petroleum retail sector.

His advocacy brought the concerns of fuel retailers into the public conversation during periods when rising costs and pricing changes placed pressure on businesses and consumers.

The role added another dimension to a career that already crossed banking, social security, electricity and private enterprise.

Senate Service Expanded Public Role

Jn Marie’s contribution was not limited to corporate leadership.

He served as an independent senator and later as Deputy President of the Senate, taking on responsibilities within Saint Lucia’s Parliament.

His Senate service placed him within the national legislative process and added parliamentary experience to his extensive business and institutional background.

The combination of public service and corporate leadership made him a prominent figure in discussions involving governance, economic management and national development.

His willingness to accept appointments across several institutions also reflected the confidence placed in his judgment and experience.

House Speaker Pays Tribute

House Speaker Claudius Francis paid tribute to Jn Marie following news of his death, remembering him as a lifelong friend, former St Mary’s College schoolmate and trusted confidant.

Francis said Jn Marie’s commitment to public service extended beyond the positions and titles he held.

“He gave himself to public service with a seriousness that marked him as a man of immense value,” Francis wrote.

Francis also reflected on Jn Marie’s willingness to serve wherever he was called, describing his guidance as steady and his loyalty as unwavering.

He said Jn Marie’s leadership was motivated not by personal recognition, but by a desire to ensure that the institutions he served operated in the best interest of the public.

The tribute portrayed Jn Marie as a dependable adviser whose influence was felt both professionally and personally.

Jn Marie’s death creates vacancies across several boards and organizations that benefited from his experience in business and public service.

No funeral arrangements or succession decisions for the positions he held had been publicly announced.

His career leaves a record of service across banking, social security, energy, petroleum retailing, private enterprise and Parliament, marking the loss of a prominent figure whose work connected Saint Lucia’s public and private sectors for decades.
