Amid security concerns, St Lucia Police investigate missing M16 rifle and arrest serving officer.

GROS ISLET, Saint Lucia – The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has launched an investigation after an M16 rifle went missing from the Gros Islet Police Station, prompting heightened concerns over security within law enforcement. As St Lucia Police investigate the missing M16, a serving officer has been arrested and remains in custody, assisting with ongoing inquiries.

According to a statement issued by the RSLPF, the Major Crimes Unit is leading the probe into how the high-powered firearm disappeared. Authorities have yet to disclose the identity of the officer in custody or provide specific details regarding the circumstances surrounding the missing weapon. However, law enforcement officials stress that the investigation is still in its preliminary stages and that further updates will be provided as the case unfolds.

Commissioner Garde Pledges Accountability

Police Commissioner Verne Garde has reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining integrity within the force, emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance on corruption and misconduct.

“The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force strongly opposes any form of institutional corruption. We will take all necessary steps to ensure that our officers operate within the ambit of the law,” Commissioner Garde stated.

The disappearance of a military-grade weapon has sparked public concern, with calls for a thorough inquiry into security protocols at police facilities. Questions have emerged about whether the missing firearm could pose a threat to public safety or, worse, fall into criminal hands.

Rising Concerns Over Law Enforcement Oversight

This latest controversy comes amid heightened scrutiny of the RSLPF, as Saint Lucia grapples with ongoing crime and security challenges. The potential misuse of a missing M16 rifle has only fueled anxieties over firearm-related offenses and the risk of weapons being unaccounted for within law enforcement ranks.

While officials urge patience as investigations continue, the development has reignited debates over police accountability. Critics argue that internal policing mechanisms must be strengthened to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

As authorities work to recover the missing M16 rifle and determine responsibility, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has assured the public that transparency and due process will guide their actions.

Unitedpac St. Lucia News will continue to follow this developing story as more details emerge.
