Police confirm Rebelto Nelson and Travis Charles as victims in Vieux Fort shooting
VIEUX FORT, St Lucia — The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has launched an investigation into a double homicide in La Tourney, Vieux Fort, that left two young men dead in the early hours of Friday, September 12.
The victims have been identified as 24-year-old Rebelto Nelson of La Tourney and 22-year-old Travis Charles of Desruisseaux, Micoud. Police said both men were known to law enforcement.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Wayne Charlery, who oversees crime management and citizen security, officers from the Vieux Fort Police Station responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 5:45 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered the two men lying motionless with apparent gunshot wounds. A medical practitioner later pronounced them dead at the scene.
“The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is urging persons with information regarding these homicides to contact the Vieux Fort Police Station at 456-3906,” Charlery said. He added that anonymous tips can also be submitted through the Crime Hotline at 555 or via the RSLPF Crime Hotline app.
RSLPF stresses community support
Police confirmed that both Nelson and Charles had prior interactions with law enforcement, highlighting the risks tied to lifestyles that frequently attract police attention. However, investigators have not disclosed any details regarding a motive.
Charlery emphasized the importance of public cooperation in resolving the case. “We encourage anyone with information that can aid in solving this violent crime to come forward,” he said.
The RSLPF has also pledged to provide mental health and psychosocial support to the families of the deceased through partnerships with community agencies. Authorities say these measures are vital to reducing trauma and preventing retaliatory violence.
Ongoing homicide surge
The La Tourney killings push St Lucia’s confirmed homicide toll for 2025 to 57, according to police records. Just days earlier, police identified 21-year-old Kimmany Francois as the victim in the Active Hill La Clery shooting, which marked the island’s 55th homicide of the year.
Police say the investigation into the La Tourney double homicide remains active.
