Emergency crews responded to a Beanfield Vieux Fort accident in two incidents
VIEUX FORT, St Lucia — A Beanfield Vieux Fort accident on Thursday afternoon resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries after two separate traffic incidents were reported within minutes of each other, according to emergency officials.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. in the Beanfield area, where a vehicle reportedly veered off the roadway and collided with a tree. Emergency responders arriving at the scene found the female driver seriously injured and unresponsive. A male passenger in the vehicle also sustained injuries.
Both individuals were transported to St Jude Hospital for medical treatment. A medical practitioner later pronounced the female driver dead. Her identity has not been released, and no official update has been provided on the condition of the male passenger.
Shortly afterward, at about 1:37 p.m., emergency officials responded to a second traffic incident in the same Beanfield area involving a minibus and a sport utility vehicle (SUV).
According to reports, the minibus collided with the SUV, resulting in twelve individuals sustaining minor injuries. Three of the injured were transported to hospital for further medical evaluation. Four individuals declined transportation after being assessed at the scene, while the remaining passengers left the area after receiving on-site medical attention.
The Beanfield incidents come amid a series of recent road collisions in the south of the island, including a Vieux Fort crash that left 11 injured and one unresponsive, highlighting continued pressure on emergency responders.
Emergency services, including ambulances and police units, responded to both incidents. Traffic in the area was affected during the response as officials attended to the injured and managed the scenes.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has not released additional details regarding either accident, including the causes or whether charges are being considered. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
The death of the female driver marks the first confirmed fatal traffic accident recorded in the Beanfield area of Vieux Fort for the year.
