CASTRIES, St Lucia — A 23-year-old Gros Islet man has been charged in connection with a fatal Choc Highway crash earlier this year that resulted in the death of a Bonne Terre resident.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force confirmed that Rjae Actie of Monier, Gros Islet, was formally charged on March 2, 2026, with causing death by dangerous driving following the collision.

Actie appeared before the First District Court for bail proceedings and was granted bail in the sum of $10,000 cash or suitable surety. The court also imposed additional conditions as the matter proceeds through the judicial process.

Police investigation into Choc Highway crash leads to charge

Authorities said the collision occurred on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at approximately 4:35 p.m. along the Choc Highway in Castries.

Officers attached to the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force’s Department of Road Safety responded to reports of a serious two-vehicle crash involving traffic traveling in opposite directions.

Preliminary investigations indicated that a vehicle traveling northbound collided with another vehicle heading southbound along the roadway.

Drivers and passengers from both vehicles sustained injuries and were transported to the Owen King European Union Hospital and Tapion Hospital for treatment.

Police later confirmed that Leslie Clarke of Bonne Terre, Gros Islet, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved, died from injuries sustained in the collision.

Medical personnel pronounced Clarke dead at the hospital, turning the roadway incident into a fatal case.

The Department of Road Safety subsequently launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, which ultimately resulted in the charge laid against Actie.

Authorities are again urging motorists across St Lucia to exercise caution while driving and to comply with traffic laws governing vehicle operation and road use.

Good to see charges laid for reckless driving. Hope this newfound desire for law and order extends to the less wealthy in our society as well.
