CASTRIES, St Lucia — A fatal Conway shooting has claimed the life of 29-year-old Michael Zacchaeus Charlery, marking St Lucia’s 17th homicide of 2026 as police continue investigations into the deadly incident.
Investigators said officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department responded to the incident shortly before 7 p.m. When they arrived, they found Charlery suffering from multiple gunshot injuries.
Personnel from the Saint Lucia Fire Service treated the wounded man before taking him to the Owen King European Hospital. He later died despite medical efforts to save him.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force subsequently confirmed the deceased was Charlery, a resident of Conway.
Another violent killing deepens public concern
Charlery’s death adds to mounting concern over violent crime in St Lucia, particularly after other recent fatal incidents reported across the island. Those cases include the La Pansee shooting that left a man dead, the fatal stabbing in Morne Du Don, Castries, and the Desruisseaux fatal stabbing involving Daniel Norville.
The latest killing is also emerging days after police began probing another troubling case in Micoud, where a body was discovered on Canelles Beach. Together, the cases continue to fuel unease in communities already grappling with repeated reports of violent death.
Authorities have not yet disclosed what may have led to the Conway shooting, and no suspect information had been released up to publication time.
Investigation continues after Conway shooting
Law enforcement officials said the investigation remains active as detectives work to determine the full circumstances of the killing. A post-mortem examination has been scheduled as part of that process.
The case now adds further pressure on investigators and crime-fighting authorities as families and communities seek answers in another deadly incident involving a young man.
