Superintendent Defreitas Addresses Public in Video Statement

In a separate video statement, Superintendent Luke Defreitas, who heads the Central Division, addressed the serious breach of trust within the ranks of the RSLPF, expressing deep concern over the missing weapon and its implications for law enforcement.

Superintendent Luke Defreitas Addresses Missing M16 Rifle Scandal | Saint Lucia

“As of today, this firearm remains unaccounted for, and it is with deep concern that the RSLPF addresses its members and the public regarding this serious breach of trust within our ranks. All possible leads are being explored to return the firearm to the custody of the police,” Defreitas stated.

While acknowledging the challenges that such breaches present in the fight against crime, he commended the officers involved in the investigation for their thoroughness and professionalism despite the gravity of the situation.

“Their courageous actions go a long way toward restoring public confidence in the sanctity of our humble profession,” he added.

Superintendent Defreitas assured the public that corruption, misconduct, and criminal behavior would not be tolerated, emphasizing that those who violate their oath would face the full consequences of the law.

“The Commissioner of Police and the Senior Command of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force want to make it clear that this police force holds itself to the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. We serve to protect and give reassurance to the public that any action which undermines that trust will not be tolerated.”

He further called on officers within the force to uphold the highest moral standards, reaffirming their duty to serve the public with honor, integrity, and professionalism.

“We remain committed to accountability, transparency, and ensuring that justice is served. This incident does not define the hardworking and dedicated officers who put their lives on the line daily to keep you safe.”

Public Concern Grows Over Missing Firearm

The case has intensified scrutiny over security protocols within law enforcement, as concerns mount about how an M16 rifle—a military-grade weapon—could go missing from a police station armory.

Superintendent Defreitas reassured the public that the force will provide updates as the investigation unfolds, urging continued trust and support for the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.

“I would like to thank the public for the trust and support given to the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, and I reaffirm our commitment to creating a better Saint Lucia for all people.”

With St Lucia police sergeant remanded in the missing M16 case, authorities continue their probe into the circumstances surrounding the firearm’s disappearance. The RSLPF has assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations continue and legal proceedings move forward.
