Police are investigating the fatal roadside attack involving the mother of two killed in Bexon
CASTRIES, St Lucia — A 35-year-old woman identified as Finola Mc Lauren of Morne, Castries, was fatally shot in the Marc area of Bexon on Wednesday evening after her vehicle came under sustained gunfire, according to police and information gathered from the scene.
Investigators reported that Finola Mc Lauren had travelled to Marc earlier in the day to drop off a relative. She was leaving the community shortly after when the shooting occurred. According to reports, she was driving a white Suzuki Ciaz along the roadway used to exit the area when two unidentified individuals opened fire on the vehicle.
Residents nearby said they heard a rapid burst of gunshots and initially remained inside their homes until the gunfire stopped. When emergency responders arrived, the vehicle displayed extensive bullet damage. Finola Mc Lauren was found unresponsive inside and was later confirmed dead before medical assistance could be administered.
Sources familiar with the investigation told Unitedpac St Lucia News that officers recovered more than fifty spent shells at the scene. The ammunition recovered has been documented and is now part of the forensic review being conducted by the investigative team.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has not disclosed any information regarding possible suspects. No arrests have been made. Officials also confirmed that the motive for the attack has not been established. Officers remained on the scene late into the evening as they collected evidence, photographed the area, and sought information from individuals who may have been nearby at the time of the shooting.
Wednesday’s killing took place only days after a separate fatal shooting in Crownlands, Bexon, where a 24-year-old man was shot and killed. That incident occurred a short distance away, although police have not indicated whether the two cases are connected. Both matters remain under investigation.
Residents said the latest incident has heightened concern within the community. Several noted that the proximity of the two killings has left many uneasy, particularly as both occurred near residential zones used daily by families, commuters, and schoolchildren. Some residents said they hope authorities will increase visibility and patrols in the Bexon corridor as investigations continue.
Officers have renewed calls for public assistance. Police are urging anyone with information related to the shooting to contact investigators, noting that community cooperation often plays a crucial role in advancing cases involving gun violence.
Mc Lauren leaves behind two children, an eighteen year old daughter and a nine year old son. News of her death has drawn expressions of sympathy from individuals in her home community of Morne, where she was known as a dedicated mother.
