VIEUX FORT, St. Lucia — The Vieux Fort shallow grave victim identified by sources close to the police investigation is believed to be Enrique Lansiquot, a resident of Canaries, as authorities continue probing the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
Police located the body early Sunday morning after acting on information that led them to a burial site in the southern community. Officers secured the scene and carried out forensic processing as part of an ongoing investigation.
While sources familiar with the inquiry have disclosed the identity of the deceased, police have not formally confirmed the information. Authorities have also not released the cause of death, stating that forensic examinations and verification procedures are still underway.
The discovery has heightened concern in both Vieux Fort and Canaries, where residents reacted with unease to reports that the body was buried in a shallow grave. Law enforcement officials have not stated whether the burial suggests an attempt to conceal evidence, but investigators continue to assess all possibilities.
Police have not announced any arrests, and no information has been released regarding potential suspects. Officials have also not indicated whether the incident may be linked to other violent crimes under investigation.
The identification follows an earlier report on the initial discovery of the body in Vieux Fort, which outlined the police response and early investigative steps.
Investigators are continuing efforts to establish a timeline and determine responsibility. Police have urged anyone with credible information related to the case to assist, emphasizing that community cooperation remains essential to advancing the investigation.
Cases involving concealed burials have raised broader concerns among public safety observers, who note that such incidents deepen community trauma and complicate forensic and investigative processes. Law enforcement officials have previously stressed that delayed reporting and concealment can significantly hinder the pursuit of justice.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has not indicated when an official statement confirming the victim’s identity or cause of death will be issued. The investigation remains active.
