CASTRIES, St Lucia — Police Marine Unit Assists Distressed Vessel after officers on routine patrol spotted a small sailing boat in apparent trouble about one nautical mile north of Gros Islet on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, according to the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.
Police said the Marine Unit crew moved to the location to investigate and learned from the two occupants that the vessel’s mast had broken, causing the boat to capsize.
Officers provided assistance at sea and successfully towed the overturned vessel and its occupants back to shore. Police said both individuals were unharmed.
The Police Marine Unit has also supported other maritime cases in recent months, including an incident in which marine police recovered stolen boat parts.
