SLTA bids farewell to Lorine Charles-St Jules, celebrating her inspiring legacy and contributions to Saint Lucia’s tourism industry.

SLTA bids farewell to Lorine Charles-St Jules, its former Chief Executive Officer, who passed away recently, leaving an enduring legacy in Saint Lucia’s tourism industry. Lorine Charles-St Jules, who served as CEO of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA) from February 1, 2022, to May 31, 2024, is remembered as a visionary leader whose efforts helped transform the island’s global tourism profile during a challenging time for the industry.

In an official statement, the SLTA bid farewell to its former leader, highlighting her accomplishments and her profound impact on the organization and the nation. “It is with profound sadness that we bid farewell to Lorine Charles-St Jules, former CEO of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, who served with remarkable dedication from February 1, 2022, to May 31, 2024,” the statement began, reflecting on her tenure and her dedication to advancing Saint Lucia’s tourism efforts despite significant global challenges.

Charles-St Jules led the SLTA through one of the most turbulent periods in modern tourism, navigating the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic with resilience and innovation. Her visionary leadership ensured the recovery and growth of the industry, with the island seeing a 13% increase in visitor arrivals during her tenure. Among her most celebrated achievements was the revival of the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival, which returned stronger than ever under her leadership, along with the reinvigoration of Lucian Carnival and the Lucian Links Program, which helped connect Saint Lucia’s diaspora with their homeland.

“I had the honor of working alongside Lorine. She was an inspiring leader who pushed boundaries and embraced change with a passion that inspired all around her. Her contributions to the authority and the wider tourism industry have left a lasting impact.”

Beyond her work in Saint Lucia, Charles-St Jules also made significant contributions to the Caribbean tourism sector. She served on the Board of the Caribbean Tourism Organization, further solidifying her reputation as a leader dedicated to the region’s growth and sustainability. The SLTA’s statement noted her tireless efforts and passion for her work, stating, “Her remarkable achievements and tireless commitment will continue to inspire those who follow in her footsteps.”
