SOUFRIERE, St Lucia — A Soufriere joint police operation conducted Friday afternoon seized an illegal firearm, netted four arrests, and processed nearly 150 vehicles across one of the island’s busiest southern communities. The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force confirmed the sweep ran from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., drawing officers from six specialized units across the Southern Division.
The operation targeted Palmiste, Market Road, Barons Drive, Belle Plain, and surrounding areas of Soufriere, deploying a combination of traffic checkpoints, mobile patrols, and foot patrols alongside the execution of multiple search warrants. Officers from the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit, the Department of Road Safety and Traffic Investigations, the Special Services Unit, the Soufriere Police Station, and Tactical Response South all participated.
Loaded Pistol Seized in Soufriere Joint Police Operation
Among the operation’s most significant results was the recovery of a pistol loaded with a magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition. The RSLPF did not disclose the location within Soufriere where the weapon was found, nor did it identify the individual or individuals connected to the firearm. Four people were taken into custody during the operation. No charges had been publicly confirmed at the time of this report, and all allegations remain unproven pending the outcome of any subsequent investigation and court proceedings.
Traffic Enforcement Yields 22 Tickets
On the traffic enforcement side, officers stopped 147 vehicles and conducted physical searches of 15. A total of 22 tickets were issued for various traffic offences. The RSLPF did not specify the nature of the violations cited. The volume of vehicle stops reflects the scale of the deployment and the force’s stated intent to maintain road safety enforcement alongside its crime-suppression mandate.
Friday’s operation represents one of the more significant multi-unit deployments to Soufriere in recent months, echoing patterns seen in a previous Soufriere police operation that also resulted in multiple arrests. The RSLPF’s public disclosure of specific unit participation and arrest figures signals a deliberate effort to communicate enforcement presence to residents and potential offenders alike.
