Police operations in Dennery and Bois Patat lead to major St Lucia cocaine and firearm seizure

CASTRIES, St Lucia – July 21, 2025 — The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has launched a sweeping counter-crime campaign across multiple districts, resulting in the seizure of 50 kilograms of suspected cocaine, the discovery of high-powered weapons, and the arrest of a dual Saint Lucian-American national on firearm importation charges.

The coordinated anti-narcotics and firearms operations unfolded over several days beginning July 3, led by the Gros Islet-based GNFU North and South units.

EC $1.3 million cocaine seizure in Dennery

On July 3, 2025, officers conducted a joint anti-drug operation in Dennery Village and later at Ti Tous Beach based on credible intelligence. Following several hours of surveillance and comprehensive searches, officers discovered two large sacks containing 45 bricks of suspected cocaine.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force reported that the total weight of the seizure was approximately 50 kilograms, with an estimated street value of EC$1.3 million. The suspected narcotics were sealed, labeled, and submitted to the forensic lab for analysis.

The seizure forms part of an escalating crackdown on organized crime by law enforcement authorities targeting trafficking networks operating within and beyond St Lucia’s borders.

Cannabis resin arrest in follow-up checkpoint

A day later, on July 4, a follow-up operation in the Dennery area led to the interception of a man identified as Quintin Taylor, also known as “Quincy,” during a snap vehicle check. Officers discovered 105 grams of cannabis resin in his possession.

Taylor was arrested and charged with possession of controlled drugs and possession with intent to supply. He was granted bail and is scheduled to appear in court.

U.S. St Lucian citizen charged in firearm import case

In a separate case, the RSLPF formally charged Chester Garner Ernest, a dual citizen of Saint Lucia and the United States, with three counts of firearm importation under Section 31A of the Firearms (Amendment) Act.

The charges stem from a search conducted on December 12, 2024, at Ernest’s residence in Careille. Officers recovered one Cobra .380 pistol concealed in a pair of sneakers, 264 rounds of ammunition hidden in a false air-conditioning vent, a firearm cleaning kit, and a quantity of compressed cannabis.

Authorities say investigations further linked Ernest to a prior seizure on August 22, 2022, at Shed 6, Port Castries, where police recovered:

  • Three AR-15 rifles
  • High-capacity magazines
  • Tactical gear
  • Assorted firearm components

Although the August 2022 incident is still under investigation, the RSLPF continues to prioritize interdiction efforts at maritime ports, including a recent gun smuggling interception at the Castries Port, as part of its national security strategy.

Ernest is scheduled to appear before the First District Court in Castries on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. The case involves cooperation with the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

Bois Patat raid uncovers AR-15 rifle

On the morning of Monday, July 7, 2025, the GNFU, supported by the Central Intelligence Unit, carried out a high-priority search in Odlum City, Bois Patat. The operation was initiated following intelligence about a possible illegal firearm transaction.

A search of the residential premises led to the discovery of:

  • One suspected AR-15 rifle
  • Two high-capacity magazines
  • Multiple rounds of ammunition

Police noted that the firearm’s serial number appeared to have been tampered with. All items were submitted to the Scenes of Crime Unit for forensic analysis. No arrests have been made in connection with this case, and investigations remain ongoing.

Police vow continued crackdown on organized crime

“These recent developments are part of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force’s ongoing effort to dismantle organized criminal networks through precision policing and intelligence-led operations,” the department stated.

Authorities encouraged the public to play an active role in the national crime fight by reporting suspicious behavior via the confidential 555 hotline or other anonymous tip lines.

The RSLPF reiterated that partnerships, both local and international, remain key in addressing the threats posed by narcotics trafficking and arms smuggling.

Editor’s Note:
