CASTRIES, St Lucia — Police have arrested a 24-year-old man after officers recovered an illegal firearm during an operation along Chaussee Road on Saturday afternoon.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force said officers attached to the Special Operations Team responded to information around 4 p.m. on March 7, 2026, regarding a male individual reportedly in possession of a firearm in the area.

Upon arriving in the area, officers carried out searches of several individuals as part of the response to the report.
During one of the searches, police said a firearm was found on the person of Kimani Richardson of Monchy, Gros Islet. Authorities also recovered a magazine containing eight rounds of ammunition.
Richardson was arrested at the scene and later taken into custody as investigations continued.
Charges filed after illegal firearm recovered on Chaussee Road
Police subsequently charged Richardson with Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Ammunition.
Officials said he was later granted bail in the amount of $40,000 cash or suitable surety.
The latest recovery comes amid continued efforts by law enforcement to remove illegal weapons from communities across the island. In a separate recent operation, police also recovered a rifle in Vieux Fort, underscoring the broader concern over illegal firearms in St Lucia.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has not released additional details about the origin of the firearm seized on Chaussee Road or whether it may be linked to any other investigations.
