CASTRIES, St Lucia — Police have identified the Marchand shooting victim as 51-year-old Gerald D. Francis of Rock Hall, Castries, in a key update to the fatal Black Mallet incident that pushed St Lucia’s homicide toll to 24 for 2026.
Officers attached to the Marchand Police Station responded to a report of a shooting at Black Mallet, Marchand, around 8:50 p.m. on Saturday, April 11. Initial reports indicated that three people sustained gunshot injuries during the incident.
Police later discovered the body of a male victim near a shed. A medical practitioner pronounced Francis dead at the scene, according to the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.

The latest police statement provides the first official identification of the deceased since the incident was initially reported. Earlier reports on the fatal Marchand shooting detailed the initial police response before authorities released the victim’s identity.
Police also disclosed that one male is assisting investigators. Authorities have not indicated whether that individual has been arrested or charged in connection with the homicide.
A post-mortem examination has been scheduled for a later date as investigators continue gathering forensic and witness evidence.

The killing has sharpened concern about violent crime in St Lucia, particularly in communities already grappling with the fallout from repeated gun violence. Each new homicide places added pressure on law enforcement and raises fresh questions about public safety.
