VIEUX FORT, St Lucia — The Vieux Fort homicide victim found dead in the Westhall Group community has been identified as 23-year-old Mershan Sumra, according to updated information received after the initial report.
Sumra was discovered in the early hours of Thursday lying in a pile of rubble in the area commonly known as “The Mang.” Authorities have not yet released further details on the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
The killing raises St Lucia’s homicide toll for 2026 to 28, adding to growing public concern over violent crime and its impact on families and communities across the island.

Residents in the area said the victim was not originally from the Westhall Group community, a detail that could form part of the ongoing investigation as police seek to establish his movements and any connections linked to the case.
