CASTRIES, St Lucia — A masked gunman opened fire in a Castries parking lot shooting outside the Seventh-day Adventist Church, striking a woman in the thigh shortly after she departed the service.
The victim, identified as Poyetta Morgan, was seated inside her vehicle when the assailant approached and opened fire before fleeing the scene. Morgan is reported to be the wife of a retired police officer.
Emergency services transported Morgan to a medical facility, where she was listed in stable condition.
Police Launch Investigation Into Castries Shooting
Officers of the Royal St Lucia Police Force have launched a formal investigation into the shooting. The raw details released so far confirm only that the attacker wore a mask and fled the scene after opening fire.
No arrest has been announced. No findings of guilt or culpability have been established against any individual.
The Saturday attack follows a separate Castries shooting earlier this period in which a woman was also hospitalized after gunfire in the Morne Du Don area.
Castries Parking Lot Shooting Prompts Denominational Appeal for Support
The St Lucian Mission of Seventh-day Adventists issued a public appeal urging members of the church community to offer prayers and support to Morgan and her family during this time.
