Belle Vue vandalism prompts bold RSLPF action, reinforcing anti-vandalism laws to protect public spaces.
Belle Vue, Saint Lucia – The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding anti-vandalism laws following a Belle Vue vandalism incident that defaced a local bus shelter in Choiseul. The RSLPF has urged citizens to respect shared public spaces and highlighted the legal consequences of such acts under Saint Lucia’s Criminal Code.
On Saturday, January 11, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Choiseul Police Station initiated an investigation into the defacement of the bus shelter. The structure was marked with the words “King Baros” and the number six, a blatant act of vandalism that left residents dismayed.
Swift investigations led authorities to identify the offender as 27-year-old Eric Poleon, a Belle Vue resident known by the nickname “King Baros.” On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, Poleon was formally charged under Section 487 of Saint Lucia’s Criminal Code, which prohibits unauthorized advertisements, graffiti, or markings on public and private structures.
The Criminal Code specifies that individuals found guilty of defacement are liable to a fine of up to $1,000 upon summary conviction. The RSLPF emphasized that these laws are designed to preserve the aesthetic integrity and functional use of public and private spaces.
“This incident underscores the importance of respecting our public spaces and adhering to the law,” the RSLPF stated in its release. “Acts of vandalism not only deface our infrastructure but also detract from the community’s shared environment.”
The RSLPF is urging the public to report any instances of vandalism or unauthorized advertising to their nearest police station, reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding the island’s public spaces.
As the investigation and subsequent charges highlight the seriousness of such offenses, the RSLPF hopes this serves as a deterrent to others who may consider similar acts. Residents and visitors alike are reminded of their role in preserving Saint Lucia’s environment and upholding its laws.
