CASTRIES, St Lucia, April 16, 2025 — A coordinated law enforcement blitz resulted in nine arrests and the seizure of firearms and military-grade ammunition during a multi-agency operation centered on Faux A Chaux, authorities confirmed.
The Faux A Chaux police raid, which unfolded in the early hours of Thursday, April 10, 2025, was led by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF). Inspector Shervon Matthieu, serving as police spokesperson, described the effort as a “meticulously planned” operation aimed at disrupting gun-related crime in key urban communities.
Officers from the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit, the Special Operations Team, the Special Services Unit, and the Marchand Police Station were deployed in the operation.
Faux A Chaux, La Croix and Wilton’s Yard targeted in joint operation
According to Inspector Shervon Matthieu, the targeted locations—Faux A Chaux, La Croix, Odsan, and Wilton’s Yard—were identified through ongoing intelligence as critical zones for illegal firearm activity. Tactical units executed eight coordinated search warrants during the sweep.
“These areas have been identified as hotbeds of gun violence and criminal enterprise,” Matthieu said in a video statement issued by the RSLPF. “Our mission was to neutralize that threat.”
The operation led to the arrest of nine individuals, including two juveniles, raising fresh alarm about youth involvement in firearm offenses.
Loaded pistol and military-grade rounds recovered
A major breakthrough came during a search at a residence in Faux A Chaux, where officers recovered a .380 Luger pistol loaded with five rounds—one in the chamber. A follow-up search of an abandoned structure behind the residence uncovered 30 rounds of 5.56 mm green-tip ammunition, commonly associated with military rifles.
Police officials described the discovery as highly concerning given the ballistic capability of such ammunition.
“The presence of military-grade rounds in a civilian setting underscores the level of danger we’re confronting,” Inspector Matthieu warned.
Two minors among nine detained during Faux A Chaux police raid
The two juveniles arrested are under investigation for their suspected roles in the possession and potential trafficking of illegal firearms. Authorities confirmed that all nine detainees face charges under St Lucia’s firearms laws and that further forensic testing will determine if the weapons are linked to recent gun-related crimes.
This marks a significant escalation in law enforcement’s ongoing strategy to suppress gun activity across high-risk communities. Similar efforts earlier this year in Bois Patat led to the recovery of an Uzi submachine gun and multiple arrests, highlighting a persistent pattern of illegal arms circulation in densely populated urban zones.
Separate firearm arrest in Belmont linked to parallel investigation
In a related but separate development, police apprehended a man in Belmont following the recovery of another unlicensed firearm. While no direct link has yet been confirmed between the Belmont arrest and the Faux A Chaux raids, investigators are probing potential overlaps in gang networks and weapons distribution channels.
Public urged to support police in curbing gun violence
Inspector Shervon Matthieu reiterated calls for public cooperation, stressing that community intelligence continues to play a vital role in policing success.
“Our efforts are most effective when supported by vigilant and cooperative communities,” he said. “We encourage anyone with information to come forward.”
The Faux A Chaux operation is part of a broader law enforcement initiative that has included major drug interdiction actions, such as the recent $1.4 million cocaine seizure tied to maritime trafficking networks. Authorities have vowed to expand these joint enforcement campaigns across additional high-risk sectors.
As investigations continue, law enforcement agencies will maintain heightened patrols and deploy further targeted operations across vulnerable districts.
