Court orders juvenile remanded in Omar Joseph stabbing case
CASTRIES, St Lucia — A 16-year-old juvenile has been formally charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of 16-year-old Omar Joseph of Marisule, Gros Islet, according to a release from the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.
Police said Joseph succumbed to his injuries at 12:00 a.m. on Jan. 3, 2026. The incident was previously reported as St Lucia’s first homicide of 2026, as outlined in an earlier report on St Lucia’s first homicide of 2026.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force stated that the juvenile suspect was arrested on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026. On Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, the suspect was formally charged indictably with the offense of wounding.
Police further reported that on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, the juvenile was additionally charged indictably with the offense of murder.
On Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, the accused appeared virtually before a magistrate of the First District Court. During that appearance, the court ordered that the juvenile be remanded in custody at the Bordelais Correctional Facility Juvenile Centre.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force said the juvenile is to remain in custody until Jan. 15, 2026, pending a bail review.
