The United Workers Party (UWP) strongly condemns the recent verbal attack by Local Government and Housing Minister Richard Frederick on the President of the Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA). This unprovoked assault occurred after the SLMDA President addressed a letter to the Board of the Owen King EU (OKEU) Hospital highlighting major concerns and inefficiencies that have led to poor service at the island’s main hospital. These issues are severely affecting both the staff and patients at the hospital.
The UWP stands in full support of the SLMDA President’s right and duty to raise these critical issues. The letter speaks to longstanding problems within the OKEU Hospital, including staffing shortages, lack of essential supplies, and inadequate infrastructure.
